The IXO cordless screwdriver from Bosch is a special object:
It was developed especially for women. It is the result of market research studies conducted by the company, in which the so-called sporadic female DIYer was discovered as a new target group. This group apparently wants small, lightweight, easy-to-use tools and values aesthetics, but rejects specially designed “women’s products.” Although the cordless screwdriver was designed specifically for women, 50 percent of its sales are made by men.
The cordless screwdriver is not only on display in the museum’s permanent exhibition, but is also part of a special route on the topic of “gender” in the museum app of the Werkbundarchiv – Museum der Dinge. This is available for download in the respective stores.
