Travelling to the museum

The museum is located on the ground floor of Leipziger Straße 54 at Spittelmarkt and is best reached by public transport. Take either the U2 underground line (Spittelmarkt) or buses 200 or 248 (U Spittelmarkt). The various stops are around 30 to 300 metres from the museum entrance.

The museum is located on the ground floor to the left of the building entrance marked number 54, with an illuminated sign at the entrance that reads “Werkbundarchiv – Museum der Dinge”. The square in front of the museum has paving stones and is uneven in places.

There is only one parking space at the museum, which can be reserved by visitors with reduced mobility. Access to the parking space is via Jerusalemer Straße. Please call +49 (0)30 92 10 63 66 during opening hours (Thursday to Monday, 12 pm–7 pm) to book the space.


Arriving at the museum

The main entrance to the museum has a threshold of 2 cm and the doorway is 102 cm wide. There is no automatic door opener for the entrance door. The staff at the ticket desk in the entrance area can help you open the door if necessary.

Assistance dogs are very welcome. Please register them at the ticket desk. Other animals are not permitted in the museum.

All rooms are wheelchair accessible. There are no steps or height differences between the rooms.

You will find the museum ticket desk and the museum shop in the entrance area. The staff there are happy to answer any questions. Benches are available.

There is free Wi-Fi in the museum: you can simply connect to it, scan a QR code in the entrance area, or ask for the login details at the ticket desk. By scanning additional QR codes, you can also download the museum app and subscribe to our newsletter.

There is a free cloakroom at the back of the museum behind the ticket desk. Umbrellas etc. can be left here, and you can also hang up coats and jackets. The cloakroom rail hangs at a height of 170 cm. There are also lockers in two sizes (80 x 47 x 21.5 cm and 27 x 42 x 55 cm), which can be used without a deposit. The staff will assist you if you need help. The museum does not accept liability for items left in the cloakroom.


Visiting the exhibitions

All exhibition areas are accessible via the ground floor and the access routes are at least 90 cm wide. Benches and other seating options are available.

There is currently no tactile floor guidance system or orientation information for blind and visually impaired people at the museum.

The main exhibition texts for permanent and special exhibitions are available in German, English and Leichte Sprache (simple German). Information on the exhibitions is not currently available in German sign language or Braille.

There are media stations with video and/or audio material in the exhibitions. The museum makes an effort to convey these contents using at least two senses, for example seeing and hearing.

There is also a free app with various themed routes that will enable you to find out more about the exhibits. The app is available in German, English and Leichte Sprache (simple German). Written and audio versions of the texts are available.

Behind the entrance area is the permanent exhibition. The permanent exhibition is organised as an open depot. A quarter of the objects are displayed in very tall display cases. Most of the objects are in cabinets with a maximum height of 362 cm. The exhibition texts are placed at a height of between 18 and 340 cm.


Toilets

The toilets in the museum are gender neutral. There is a wheelchair-accessible toilet with grab rails and a doorway measuring 95.5 cm. You will also find a changing table here. There are also non-accessible toilets with cubicles with sitting toilets. There are urinals without privacy screens in front of the cubicles in the bathroom on the left
