Rocking car

Hans Brockhage, who later became a painter and sculptor, designed a flexible rocking car instead of a conventional rocking horse during his studies at the Dresden Art Academy (Dresden Kunsthochschule) in 1950 as part of a seminar on play equipment design. This could be used both as a rocking car and as a rocking swing. The design was patented in 1951, later produced for decades in various companies in the GDR and used in numerous kindergartens. Erwin Andrä contributed to the design and Mart Stam was the supervisor.

Brockhage’s rocking car can be seen in the new permanent exhibition.
