Our first thing of the month this year is currently on display in our special exhibition FOTO | ALBUM. Private and anonymous photography from the collection of Werkbundarchiv – Museum der Dinge.
On the page of this KEK-brand photo album shown here, however, there is no such ‘photo’. Instead, the German word “Wir” (“we”) is handwritten in white on black paper.
Establishing group or family identity is one of the cultural and social functions of the photo album, which makes this word a somewhat self-reflexive comment on the medium. But who is “Wir”? According to the museum team, it could include all of us, starting into a peacful and healthy 2018 in a motivating spirit of togetherness.
